Have you ever heard the  term, 'beauty is skin deep'? That particular saying may be true but only to certain point because there are other factors at play.  Your skin is the largest organ on your body and just like anything, it is essential that you take care of it. One of the major keys to healthy skin is good old H20, better known as water. Drinking 6 - 8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day will not only help to flush your system of toxins it can help to keep your body properly hydrated through out the day.

Another huge factor is what we put into our bodies as fuel....FOOD. When you eat a lot of sugars you may notice that your body begins to function a little differently. You can feel sluggish, go from a quick high to a sudden low or crash after the sugar rush wears off. Not balancing our our diets can contribute to poor health which may reflect in our skin. Remember to balance your diet with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, omega-3 fatty acids and lean meats. If you strike that internal balance you can live a happy & healthy life.

Other ways to maintain your health...
  • Nix the smoking. Not only can this hobby take years off of your life, it can cause your skin to become asphyxiated and have an ashen appearance. You'll look much older than you truly are.
  • Create an exercise regimen that includes a well rounded work-out. Cardio, swimming, walking, kick-boxing, yoga or cycling.
  • Find time to unwind and de-stress. This may be easier said than done but doing this one thing can rejuvenate your mind, body & soul...not mention, keep you sane.
  • Make time for your family and friends or attend social events.

Everyone has a skin type. Be it Normal, Sensitive, Acneic, Dry & Oily.  How you take care of your skin may vary depending on the condition of your skin. People that have oily skin will generally cleanse several times a day to remove the excess sebum. However, over manipulation can cause the skin to become over stimulated and cause it to produce more oil which can defeat the initial purpose.

A person with dry skin lacks hydration. Since their are many factors as why a persons skin may be dry you need to pin-point the culprits. You may not be drinking enough water, medication could be altering the appearance and feel of your skin or their could be environmental issues at play.

The basic rules to cleansing your skin are this:
  • Cleanse once a day, preferably at night. You're washing off the days oil and dirt and while you sleep your bodies cells will restore and regenerate itself.
  • Exfoliate your skin at least 1 time a week. This will help to slough off the dead skin cells and allow new cells to make there way to the top layer of your skin. It also helpps to maintain a healthy and youthful glow.
  • After each cleanse make sure to apply toner to your face. It will help to balance your skins pH level back to its normal range of, 5.5,  after using products.
  • Last but not least,  ALWAYS apply moisturizer at the end of your cleansing regime. This can hydrate and seal in moisture and protect the skin.

If you follow simple rules like this, you can help to clear up blemishes, slow down premature aging and create a healthy glow.
